Objective To analyze the characteristics of casualties in ground firm works based on animal experiments. Methods Experimental data were extracted from weapon bioeffect assessment experiments. According to the collapsed status of the ground firm works, the animals were divided into different groups. The analyses of survival situation, injury severity and injury types in all animals and injuries of all body parts in the injured animals were conducted. Results There were 160 injured goats included in this study, and 43. 12%(69/160) of them died immediately, and the left ones(56. 88%,91/160) got injured. The average new Injury Severity Score(NISS) was 15. 90 ± 13. 96 for all survived animals. And68. 75% of them were primary blast injury,63. 13% secondary,9. 38% tertiary and 10. 91% quaternary blast injury. Ninety-one goats suffered from 33 head injuries,63 face sensory organ injuries,55 thoracic organ injuries, and 27 abdominal organ injuries. Conclusion The main injury type is secondary blast for the animals died immediately after explosion, and the main injury type is primary blast for injured animals in ground firm works. There are more closed injuries than open injuries in injured animals. And the main injured organs are the ear and lung.
