On the Rail Grinding Techniques Applied in Guangzhou Metro

Liu Linwu Li Jianguo (Guangzhou Metro Corporation, Guangzhou 510030)  
Two types of rail grinding techniques adopted in Guangzhou metro are introduced in the paper. The principle, the application as well as the virtues and defects of the preventive grinding approach are highlighted. It is shown that the preventive grinding can effectively control the side wear, fatigue and corrugation, improve the interaction between the wheel and rail, suppress the wheelrail noise as well as prolong the life of the rail.
