Stratification and rolling of liquid natural gas in storage tank

Wang Hairong Ma Xiaoqian(Electrical Engineering College,South China University of Technology,Guangzhou 510640,China)  
To calculate the stratification of liquid natural gas(LNG) in storage tank under temperature differential or density differential,the density current model has been established.And Lorenz equation has been used to describe the heat convection of lower layer of density current.Solving the nonlinear equation by coupled map lattices model,the independent circulation,rolling and convective circulation state of the system and corresponding Ra values have been determined.The research has proved that the rolling phenomena would happened when temperature differential is equal to zero.Developing process of LNG stratification system to follow the control parameter Ra has been studied and the related value has been obtained.Computation shows that when the temperature or density differential has been preset,the bottom layer is thicker,the vapor rate is higher and the time that the rolling phenomena happened is later.When temperature differential has been preset,if the density of bottom layer is larger,the rolling time would be advanced.
