Dynamic Characteristics of Characteristic Parameters of Traveling Wave Protection for HVDC Transmission Line and Their Setting

Due to lacking in a unified and applicable setting method,the reliability of existing traveling wave protection(TWP) for HVDC transmission line is to be improved.Dynamic response characteristics and regular pattern of characteristic parameters of TWP for HVDC transmission line,namely the rate of voltage change,the variation quantity of voltage and the variation quantity of current,under different kinds of faults are simulated by EMTDC-based simulation,furthermore basic functions possessed by criteria of TWP for HVDC transmission line as well as the logical relationship among them are researched.On this basis,the principle to determine the boundary conditions for the setting of the criteria are proposed,and then a basic method for the setting of TWP for HVDC transmission line is formed.Based on the parameters of actual HVDC transmission line,results of case study on the setting of TWP show that proposed setting method possesses good performance in reliability and sensitivity.
