The Main Challenges of UOWC and Corresponding Solutions

Much more attention has been paid for urban optical wireless communication (UOWC) for its high data rate over short distances. The terminal of UOWC includes an optical transmitter and a receiver which are installed on the roof of the high buildings. The information can be carried by the light which sent from the transmitter to the receiver. UOWC have many advantages, such as deployment facilitation, lightweight, high capacity and without licensing fees. However, UOWC still faces some challenges, including how to improve communication performance in adverse weather conditions or during building sway. In this article, we propose some possible solutions to deal with these issues.
