Mechanism of Hawthorn flavone against myocardial ischemia reperfusion injury

Objective To observe the effect of hawthorn leaf flavonoids( HLF) on myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury in rats,and to explore its protective effect on myocardial cells injured by ischemia-reperfusion. Methods Forty male Wistar rats were randomly divided into normal control group, model group, HLF low dose group and high dose group, with 10 rats in each group.The rats in each group were fed with normal diet, HLF low dose group, High-dose group were given intraperitoneal administration of hawthorn flavone 0.5 g/kg,1.0 g/kg once daily for 7 days; established myocardial ischemia injury model in rats, recorded V3 electrocardiogram, compared the ST segment up shift, T wave after the electrocardiogram examination was completed, the abdominal aorta blood was taken and the serum was taken. The levels of myocardial superoxide dismutase( SOD) and creatine kinase( CK) were measured.Results Different doses of hawthorn flavonoids can change the S-T amplitude of ECG in acute myocardial ischemia rats, reduce the incidence of arrhythmia, increase myocardial SOD activity and inhibit CK activity.Conclusion HLF has a protective effect on myocardial injury induced by myocardial ischemia-reperfusion in rats. The mechanism may be related to inhibition of free radical generation and improvement of energy metabolism.
