Histological Observation Of Leydig Cell Reproduction and Development with OPtical and Electron-Microscope in Piglets

The morphological development of tests from 1~4 weeks old Piglets were observed by using optical and electron microscope. The results by using optical microscope indicated that the whole population of the leydig cells was increased obviously and rose to the maximum in 3 weeks old, and started to decreased from 4 weeks old. The density of the leydig cells increased as the population inereased. Seminiferous tubules were taking shape gradually and there were obvious gaps between the tubules and interstritial tissues, but Some of the leydig cells started to degenerate from 4 weeks old. The results by using electron microscope indicated that the number of mitochondria and smooth endoplasmic reticulum increased obviously in leydig cells from 1 to 3 weeks old, and the nuclei became mature gradually. This observation demonstrated that as the number increasing, leydig cells enhance their steroidogenic activity.
