Diagnosis and Treatment of Diabetes Mellitus in Dogs with Hypothyroidism

A case of dog,with the clinical symptoms of polydipsia,polyuria,emaciation,cataracts in both eyes and few hair in the back,was diagnosed by carefully clinical examination and laboratory examination(blood routinea and biochemistry,urine routine,glycosylated hemoglobin,thyroid function tests).The results showed that blood glucose(GLU):399 mg/dL,range of(70-143)mg/dL,glycated hemoglobin:7.5%,range 3%-6%,total thyroxine(TT4):0.5μg/dL,range(1.0-4.0)μg/dL and free thyroxine(FT4):3.31 pmol/L,rang(12-22)g/dL.Thus this case was diagnosed as diabetes mellitus complicated with hypothyroidism.Diabetes mellitus and hypothyroidism were controlled with insulin and thyroxine tablets,combined with auxiliary therapy.
