Research on the Chinese Food Knowledge through the Westerners: During the Era of Marco Polo on the Silk Road

In 13 th century, due to the Silk Road on Land Sea, the cultural exchange between China and Western countries came to a new stage. Especially, the westerners who visited China Proper such as Marco Polo,were most concentrated and most profoundly spread the knowledge about Chinese food, so also known as "the Era of Marco Polo". They not only recorded the daily foodways, living conditions and religion of Tartary, also analyzed on the Southern Chinese foodways as daily living rice and fishes accurately. In the process of the fusion of the old and new knowledge of China, a more real and accurate image of the Chinese food was built up.
