Fabricating single-negative materials by loading lumped-elements of capacitors and inductors on coplanar waveguide

In order to explore the methods of realizing single-negative(SNG) materials,the fabrication of the SNG materials using coplanar waveguide(CPW) with loading lumped-elements of capacitors and inductors was studied.First,it was illustrated through theoretical analysis and microwave experiment that the SNG materials,including epsilon-negative materials and mu-negative materials,can be realized by loading lumped-elements of capacitors and inductors on CPW periodically.Then,it was also investigated that whether the breakdown of periodicity of loading capacitors and inductors affected on the SNG gap and whether the SNG gap was still obtained when the inductors were loaded asymmetrically.The results indicate that the SNG gap is insensitive to the breakdown of periodicity and the SNG materials can still be realized when the inductors are loaded asymmetrically under the condition that the inductors are distributed on the two sides of the center strip of CPW.
