SOME CASES OF APPLICATION OF FISSION TRACK METHOD IN GEOTECTONICS

Wu Qianhong (Changsha Institute of Geotectonics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Changsha 410013)  
In recent years a lot of fission track research has been done in different tectonic areas. Fission track research can provide information about orogenic belts, tectonic basins and large\|scale faults. Based on the information on cool ages and time\|temperature evolution paths from samples, researchers are able to study the time, pattern and development of denudation in various tectonic settings on the time\|scales of millions to hundreds of millions of years. The results imply that the fission track technique is a powerful tool to reconstruct the geotectonic pattern and history of the upper crust.
