Study on automatic adjustment of resonant circuit parameters of RF power source for ion trap

According to the special requirements of ion trap for capturing and trapping ions through electromagnetic field, a linear ion trap radio frequency(RF) power source was designed and made. In the specific case of capacitive load, the optimal scheme of outputting high voltage RF signal was analyzed in this paper. In order to realize adjustable frequency, the control mode of a variable inductor was applied. A new type of adjustable inductor was designed and applied to the LC series resonant circuit, which easily realized the automatic control of RF frequency by computer. The inductance parameters testing results show that the frequency tracking effect of the resonance circuit, which consisted of the self-made double magnetic ring, was good. The RF signal was fed to the ion trap electrode through a capacitive coupling and had excellent frequency and amplitude stability, which was convenient to adjust and use.
