One Variable Quadratic Equation of Expulsion Coefficient from Source Rocks and Its Application

The coefficient of hydrocarbon expulsion is a key parameter to petroleum resource evaluation by genetic method.According to the organic carbon mass balance principle during the process of the hydrocarbon generation and expulsion within unit volume of source rocks,one variable quadratic equation of expulsion coefficient was derived through six separate algebraic equations based on the data of source rock extrusion and rock-eval.The equation parameters are known as the residual organic carbon in hydrocarbon source rocks(TOC),soluble organic matter(chloroform bitumen "A"),kerogen pyrolysis hydrocarbons(S 2) as well as the original organic matter degradation rate.According to the experimental data of 23 source rock samples from hydrocarbon expulsion profiles of Banshen 68-1 well Sha1 Member in Huanghua Depression,the expulsion coefficient is about 5%-41% through the equation calculation.The reliability of the calculated results is mainly influenced by the error of original the degradation rate.In low mature and mature stage,when the relative error of original degradation value is lower than 10% in mixed hydrocarbon source rocks,the relative error of expulsion coefficient is usually 10%—15%.
