PRELIMINARY DISCUSSION ON THE EARLY EVOLUTIONARY HISTORY OF MACROSCOPIC PLANTS

Chen Menge Chen Qiyin (Institute of Geology and Geophysics,Chinese Academy of Sciences,Beijing\ 100029) Xiao Zongzheng (Institute of Geology,Beijing 100011)
The fossil record of macroscopic plants in early geological history is outlined. The evolutionary history from colony of cell to tissue-organ structures is about 1100Ma long. Lantian Flora and Miaohe Biota mark the first great radiation of macroscopic plants taken place in Upper Sinian, e. g. non-mineralized, weak-mineralized and mineralized advanced algae occurred. The second great radiation happened in Cambrian. The non-mineralized algal group opened up broad prospects for the vascular plants.
