Geological and Geochemical Features of the Dayanzi Pt—Pd Deposit, Huili, Sichuan and Its Implication for Prospecting

The newly discovered Dayanzi Pt—Pd deposit in Sichuan Province is a unique hydrothermal deposit with the highest PGE grade of ores in China. The PGE in the Dayanzi deposit might come from the regionally distributed mafic—ultramafic rocks, mainly form those located in the Dayanzi mine. Dolomite in the Sinian strata is the favorite host rocks for PGE, while the structure-controlled movements of hydrothermal have contributed to the migration and enrichment of PGE. The dolomite-type ores with obvious azurite from the surface oxidized zone have the highest content of PGE up to 27.13 g/t. Relatively fresh olivine pyroxenite samples from the 2040 m gallery have a PGE content of 1.068 g/t, intensively altered olivine pyroxenite samples have a PGE content of 0.528g/t, while altered olivine pyroxenite samples from surface have a lower PGE content of 0.435g/t, suggesting that the platinum-group elements have been removed from the primary mafic—ultramafic rocks. Considering the widely distribution of mafic—ultramafic rocks in the Panxi area, later active tectonic movement and the common existence of favorable host rocks, especially Sinian and Cambrian dolomites, we take a good future for prospecting epigenetic PGE deposits and other types of PGE deposit in the areas affected by the Permian Emei mantle plume in southwestern China.
