Zircon SHRIMP U-Pb Age of the Songtuoga Intrusion in Mayum Gold Deposit District, Xizang(Tibet) and Its Geological Significances

[HJ*3]Located in the western part of North Himalayan fold belt, Mayum gold deposit is an individual large-scaled gold deposit which was newly discovered in Purang county, Xizang(Tibet). SHRIMP magmatic zircon U-Pb dating of the Songtuoga tonalitic porphyry, which located in northwestern Mayum gold ore district, yields an age of 18.4±1.3 Ma(1σ), which belongs to early Miocene. Several residual core of old zircon were identified and the 206Pb/ 238U age of these cores were 555±25 Ma[HJ](1σ) and 1894±83~1335±56 Ma(1σ), respectively. Based on field geological investigation, and the results of zircon dating mentioned above, it is proposed that an important magmatic event of early Cambrian occurred in the western part of North Himalaya, and the Songtuoga intrusion is derived from the anatectic melting of middle- or early- Proterozoic metamorphic basement. The forming age of the Songtuoga tonalitic intrusion is consistent with the ages of ore-bearing porphyrys in the eastern part of the Yarlungzangbo suture, which shows that both were controlled by the same geodynamic setting.
