The Research on Directory based Network Plug and Play Technology

It is more and more difficult to make configuration management to network devices while networks are evolving to be large scale,distributed and heterogeneous.The concept of Network Plug and Play (NPnP) can be used to solve the problem of “first step” configuration when devices are attached to networks,and it also provides the possibility for the research on network self configuration.Having made an in depth and systematic discussion on the conception of NPnP,the paper presents a NPnP scheme based on X.500 directory service. Also the realizability of the scheme is discussed by a simulative implementation of the NPnP process of a network printer.
