Investigation on the nucleation mechanism of Al-5%Si Alloy under electromagnetic field by EBSD

The application of electromagnetic field (FMF) during the solidification can refine the microstructure and induce the columnar to equiaxed transition (CET). Most of the study on the effects of EMF focused on the changes of heat-field, concentration-field and also the transition of microstructure. The nucleate and growth mechanism of metal when applied by the EMF is not investigated enough for understanding the effects of EMF. EBSD technique is widely used in the because of its fast index speed, high resolution and easy simple preparation. In this study the EBSD technique is used to investigate the nucleation mechanism of Al-5%Si alloy under an EMF.
