Taking batch-annealed low carbon steel sheets as example, this paper analyzed the cause for the coarse grains occurred in the sample with non-uniform grain size distribution by means of electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) technique. Measurements showed that most coarse grains had the orientation with 〈111〉ND, whereas minority of those had the orientation with 〈112〉ND. The formation of coarse grains are attributed to two reasons: (1) The coarse ferrite structure formed on the surface layer of hot rolling sheets could inherit subsequent cold rolling-annealing sheets, and induced unusual grain coarsening; (2) Inhomogeneous distribution of pinning AlN particles promoted the preferred growth of {111} and {112} grains into coarse ones.
