Microstructural investigation of goose egg shell by SEM

Microstructure and chemical compositions of goose egg shell were investigated by scanning electron microscopy( SEM). The SEM observations demonstrate that egg shell consists of inner membrane layer,outer membrane layer,mastoid layer,reticulate layer,vertical crystal layer,and cuticle layer from outer to inner. The total thickness of eggshell is about 515 micrometers. The SEM-EDS analysis indicates that the compositions of any layer are different. In addition,the main component of goose egg shell is Ca CO3 with rhombohedral structure.
