The Changes of Glutamic Acid Decarboxylase-like Immunoreactivity in Auditory Brainstem Nuclei of the Aged Rat

Objectives To detect the changes of glutamic acid decarboxylase(GAD) immunoreactivity in auditory brainstem nuclei in aged rat caused by D-galactose and to investigate its relationship with the initiation of presbycusis.Methods The auditory brainstem nuclei of adult and aged rats were stained with streptavidin/peroxidase(S-P)technique.The average gray value of the production of GAD65 and GAD67 positive reactivity was analysized with HPIAS-1000 image-quantative analysis system.Results The average grey value of production of GAD65 and GAD67 in aged rat was bigger than in the control group(P0.01).It was to say the production of GAD65 and GAD67 in aged rat decreased.Conclusion The reduction of GAD65 and GAD67 positive production in the aged rat auditory brainstem nuclei may be related to presbycusis.
