The Introduction Test of Picea abies

In order to know the most suitable area for the growth of Picea abies in the west of Hubei Province,we conducted the introduction test of Piceaabiesof German provenance and the experimental result showed that the test tree performed well.The average height,DBH(diameter at breast height)and volume of 25-year-old stand was 13.2 m,19.8cm and 0.206 2 m3,respectively.Compared with planation of Cunninghamia lanceolata,Pinus henryi and Pinus tabuliformis,the volume of the stand increased by 38.7%~46.9%.The altitude test showed that the difference of the height of 6-year-old Picea abies at the altitude from1 060 m to 1 916 m was not significant,and the area at the altitude from1500 m to 1 900 m and with the annual rainfall of more than1 000 mm was suitable for planting Picea abies to build the industrial material forest or seed orchard.
