Status and progress of laparoscopic total gastrectomy in the treatment of gastric cancer

Qin Xinyu;Liu Fenglin;Department of General Surgery,Zhongshan Hospital of Fudan University;
With the development of laparoscopic technology and equipment,minimally invasive surgery has been widely involved in surgical operations.Laparoscopic total gastrectomy(LTG)has also been widely applied.Many retrospective and cohort studies have shown that LTG has advantages of less trauma and faster postoperative recovery than open total gastrectomy,and is not inferior to open total gastrectomy in terms of safety and near and long-term efficacy.However,there is still a lack of high level evidence-based basis.At present,several prospective multicenter clinical trials are being carried out in China,Japan and South Korea which have high incidence of gastric cancer,to demonstrate the safety and feasibility of LTG and evaluate its long-term outcomes.
