Zhang Ying;Song Bilin;Department of General Surgery,Union Hospital,Tongji Medical College,Huazhong University of Science and Technology;
Colorectal cancer is one of the most common cancers in the world with relatively poor outcomes and living qualities,causing increasing social-economic burden both in developed and developing countries.Considerable interest has emerged over the last decade regarding the role of aspirin in the prevention of colorectal cancer.This article reviews the current evidences on the efficacy of preventive aspirin use for colorectal cancer from observational and interventional studies,and also to summarizes the controversies,guideline recommendations and prospects.We conclude that current evidence for the use of aspirin for colorectal cancer prevention is still insufficient.The decision should be made after a comprehensive evaluation over patients risk factors,therapy preferences,cost-benefit analysis and other concerns,to achieve the most gains at the lowest risks.Further researches are demanded on the exploration of fundamental mechanisms,optimal dose and the management of complications over the use of aspirin for colorectal cancer prevention.
