Epidemiological characteristics of mumps and control outcome after adjusting the immunization strategy in Hubei Province(2015-2017)

Objective To analyze the epidemiological characteristics of mumps from 2015 to 2017 in Hubei Province,and evaluate the control outcome after adjusting immunization strategy in 2017. Methods Descriptive epidemiological method was used to analyze the epidemiological characteristics of mumps and the mumps-containing components of the category II vaccine was used. Results The average incidence of mumps was 20. 81/100 000 in Hubei Province from 2015 to 2017. The incidence was on the rise( χ2 trend=2 969. 04,P = 0. 00). The peak incidence was from April to July and October to January. Male to female ratio was 1. 48 ∶ 1. The highest incidence was 166. 88/100 000 for 5-9 years old children. There were 48 outbreaks of mumps in total,concentrated from April to June and September to December,all occurred in schools,accounted for 93. 75% of primary schools. Compared with the first half of 2017,the number of cases of illness dropped by 26. 57% and the incidence of outbreaks decreased by 74. 07% in the second half of 2017. They both increased in the second half of 2015 and the second half of 2016 as compared with the first half of these years.In 2017,811 600 of mumps-containing vaccines were purchased totally,immunization coverage of children aged 4-6 years in the Hubei Province was 47. 58%. Among them,the immunization coverage of Suizhou,Shiyan,Jingmen and Enshi was more than 80%.Conclusion The epidemiological characteristics of mumps have not changed. After the adjustment of immunization strategies,the epidemic of mumps was effectively controlled.
