Indoor chemical pollution has become a serious social issue. So,the field surveys were proposed twice to get the information about the chemical pollution in urban residential buildings. The field experiment was carried in 20 new-decorated residential buildings in Beijing and Changsha respectively, and 15 major indoor chemical contaminants were tested. The tests indicate three kinds of substances existed in all tested houses, and their concentration were relatively high. Then a second field experiment launched for the three substances in Shanghai.Questionnaire and field test were included during the second survey. The results show furniture and architectural decoration materials are the most important factors to indoor chemical pollution;the new-decorated residential buildings should maintain ventilation for at least three months before moving in.
