Low Carbon Design of Large-scale Shopping Center

There's big potential in carbon dioxide emission of large-scale shopping center for its high energy consumption. By the state of latest green standards for retail building from abroad such as LEED, GSC, BREEAM and the analysis of carbon dioxide emission sources of those shopping centers in China, this paper provides low carbon design strategies in energy, water, materials and transportation. Low carbon design is quite different from traditional design process, because quantitative analysis tool for environmental evaluation of the building in its whole life is necessary for low carbon design. Using low carbon design strategies in the initial design can maximize the payback during the whole life of the building.
