Design of a Low Power Current-Driven Passive Mixer for UHF RFID Tag

This paper presents a splitting low noise trans-conductance amplifier(LNTA)current-driven passive mixer for the ultra-high frequency radio frequency identification tag.The current-driven passive mixer in this paper uses the 50% duty cycle local oscillator(LO)instead of the 25% duty cycle LO,which can save much power and chip area.The splitting LNTA can stop the image current circulating between the I/Q paths.The matching network in front of the mixer has extra voltage gain to suppress the noise,which will also reduce the power consumption of the mixer.The mixer was fabricated in SMIC 130 nm CMOS technology.The test results shows that it exhibits 32.1 dB voltage gain and 7.7 dB noise figure.Its in-band input-referred third-order intercept point is-9.1 dBm and its power consumption is 2.2 mW.
