The aims of the study were to investigate the effect and the mechanism of the Illicium ver-um and Eucommia leaf extract on growth performance, serum metabolites and intestinal health inweaned piglets. The single factorial experimental design was adopted in this experiment. A total of 48 healthy weaned piglets(Licha black piglets) were randomly allocated into 4 treatments with three repli-cates per treatment and 4 piglets per replicate. Control group was fed the basal diet, and experimentaltreatments were fed basal diets supplemented with Illicium verum extract(500 mg/kg), Eucommia leafextract(250 mg/kg) and aureomycin(50 mg/kg), respectively. Trial lasted for 42 days after 7 days adapta-tion. The results showed as follows: compared with the control, average daily gain(ADG) of piglets fed thediet supplemented with Illicium verum, Eucommia leaf extract and antibiotics were significantly in-creased(P0.05). The Illicium verum extract significantly increased the contents of serum total protein(P0.05). The Illicium verum and Eucommia leaf extract significantly reduced the contents of serum ureanitrogen(P0.05). The Illicium verum and antibiotics significantly reduced the number of Escherichia Co-li in cecum. The results suggested that dietarysupplementation with the Illicium verum and Eu-commia leaf extract can improve the growth perfor-mance and immunity of weaned piglets, and it hasa certain function of alternative to antibiotics.
