Characteristics of Heterotrophic Nitrification by Aerobic Denitrifiers

Heterotrophic nitrification characteristics of five aerobic denitrifiers which belong to different genus were studied. All of five strains could denitrify potassium nitrate with citrate as carbon source and ammonium sulfate as nitrogen source. After five days’culture in the medium for determination of heterotrophic nitrification,removal efficiency of NH4+-N and COD for strains including Delftia tsuruhatensis,Pseudomonas putida and Bacillus cereus could reach more than 50%. But the cumulate nitrite of five strains was little during the culture. It was necessary to judge nitrification ability by using complete nitrogen balance. One of five strains,Delftia tsuruhatensis,could aminate acetamide when using as organic nitrogen source.
