Mechanism of Heavy Metal Tolerance and Binding Properties in Chlamydomonas

Chlamydomonas as unicellular eukaryotic alga in Volvocales Chlorophyta shows a high heavy metal tolerance and effective heavy metal binding properties due to its special cell wall structure and function.Chlamydomonas has been widely applied in environment remediation and biometallurgy in recent years.Progress on recent studies on Chlamydomonas was reviewed,including heavy metal binding properties,heavy metal biosorption kinetics,and molecular mechanism of tolerance in response to heavy metal,immobilization and gene technique to construct Chlamydomonas with high binding capacity.
