Coherence between Seasonal Variation and Methane Sulfonic Acid Particles in Marine Atmosphere of Zhuhai

Thin film method was used to detect the number concentration,number percentage,size,acidity and the regular pattern of ordinary alternation of methane sulfonic acid (MSA) particles collected from marine atmosphere of Zhuhai, Guangdong Province. Results of samples collected between January 2005 and December 2005 indicated that the number concentration of MSA particles varied from 8.6×10-11nmol/m3 to 26.6×10-11nmol/m3,number percentage of MSA particles in total particles varied from 11.4% to 34.8%,equivalent diameter varied from 1.0964μm to 1.5171μm and acidity varied from 1.86 to 2.71. Obvious correlation between the change of number concentration,number percentage,equivalent diameter and acidity of MSA particles and change of season was demonstrated. Number concentration,number percentage of MSA particles increased with ascending of air temperature and exuberance of marine organisms growing,which was up to the maximal value in summer. With falling of air temperature and increase of air moisture,equivalent diameter of MSA particles increased and its acidity enhanced,and when in spring and higher air moisture,equivalent diameter was up to the maximal and pH value up to its minimum. Highest MSA particle concentration appeared in the afternoon and lowest in the morning during a day.
