Photocatalytic Degradation of Methylene Blue over Ag_3VO_4 under UV Light Irradiation

Ag3VO4 power was synthesized by precipitation method. Methylene blue was selected to simulate organic dye wastewater which was treated by photocatalytic oxidation using Ag3VO4 as photocatalyst under UV light irradiation. Effects of catalyst dosage,initial concentration of methylene blue and air flow rate on photocatalytic reactions were studied as well. Ag3VO4 powers were characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD),scanning electron microscopy(SEM),transmission electron microscopy(TEM)and UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectra. Experiments indicated that Ag3VO4 showed high photocatalytic activity to photodegrade methylene blue under UV light irradiation. When the catalyst dosage was 0.3g/L,initial concentration of methylene blue was 10mg/L and air flow rate was 2L/min,the degradation rate of methylene blue was 98% after 120minutes.
