Development of Image Analysis in Biological Wastewater Treatment

With the development of microscopic techniques and computer science,the observation on biological floc and biophase was gradually changed from qualitative to quantitative analysis. By combining CLSM with image analysis system,it was found that morphological characters and inside structure of floc could be detected to monitor the performance of activated sludge,the microstructure and spatial distribution in the biofilm were studied. Application of image analysis combined with development of microscopic techniques in biological wastewater treatment system was reviewed, for the purpose of quantitative analysis on microbiology and biostructure of activated sludge and biofilm.
