Life Cycle Assessment of Polyvinyl Chloride Production

Life cycle assessment(LCA)was used to estimate the resource consumption and environmental impact in polyvinyl chloride (PVC)production of a large SINOPEC Group in the southeast of China. Results showed that for 1t PVC production,total energy consumption was 6,102.24MJ,and environmental impact load was 0.49eq.(/p.a). In which polymerization process of vinyl chloride monomer for PVC was the largest energy consumption,accounting for 82.7%. Gas pollutants was mainly from energy production,while PVC process was main source of water pollutants and solid waste. Air particulate,photochemical synthesis and ozone,acidification and global warming were major environmental influences in PVC production. Environmental impact region in PVC production was shown as global,regional and local.
