Bioremediation of Petroleum Contaminated Soil by Composting

Petroleum-contaminated soil has become a serious environmental problem in Yellow River Delta. Composting of oil-contaminated soil was investigated using different amendments and ratios. Number of microbes in the soil and microbial activity were determined. The best amendment ratio and conditions were established. Results showed that the optimal volume ratio of soil to amendment additives was 1 to 3. Between 3rd and 18th day after composting,the microbial activity was the highest,which resulted in a high removal rate of total petroleum hydrocarbon under temperature of composting pile maintained 40~50℃,pH around 7.5 and C∶N about 15∶1,the petroleum degradation rate reached 80% after 60d of composting,which was much higher than the control pile approximately 40% degradation
