Packaging of Tritiated Silica Gel

Double-walled drums were designed for packaging tritiated silica gel,with. Al2O3 plating aluminium drum as primary container and HDPE underlayer with stainless steel drum as secondary container. Tritiated silica gel was immobilized with epoxy resin in inner container before drum was sealed,and then the inner container was transferred into stainless steel drum. Volume between two drums was filled with vermiculite and stainless steel drum was sealed with gasket. Results indicated that daily tritium releasing rate from tritiated silica gel packages were 4.62×10-5% in 20d,far less than 10-3% in 108d,which was satisfactory to the requirement of tritiated waste packaging.
