Influence on Phenol Degradation by Bacterial Strains under Different Salinity Conditions

Four phenol degradation bacterial strains named JHCFS1,JHCFS2,JHCFS3 and JHCFS4 were isolated from activated sludge in phenol wastewater treatment system.Phenol degradation efficiency of 4 bacterial strains were studied under different salinity conditions,results indicated that degradation efficiencies of the 4 bacterial phenol decreased with increasing salinity and degradation efficiency was the lowest when NaCl and KCl concentration was 4% respectively.When the phenol concentration was 1,000mg/L,NaCl concentration was 3%,strain JHCFS2 had the highest degradation efficiency which was 83% and JHCFS4 had the lowest degradation efficiency which was 47.20%.When KCl concentration was 3%,JHCFS2 had the highest degradation efficiency which was 99% and JHCFS4 had the lowest degradation efficiency which was 48%.The 16S rRNA gene of 4 bacterial strains was cloned and sequenced,phylogenetic tree was constructed using Clustalx1.8 software and MEGA 4.0 software,the bacterial strain combined with bacterial shape and physiological and chemical characteristics were classified to Bacillus simplex,Bacillus cereus,Bacillus pumilus and Bacillus cibi.
