Haze Forecast Using Wind-Profiling Radar Data

WANG Kai-yan*,ZHU Jian-jun,ZHANG Zhen-qing, CAO Ya-ping,ZHAO Xiao-wei(Meteorology Bureau of Nansha District,Guangzhou 511462,China)  
By analyzing wind-profiling radar data from July 2008 to June 2010 in Nansha,Guangzhou,the meteorological characteristics regarding occurrence of haze days in this district were presented.According to the analysis,wind speed is an important factor,e.g.,when mid-layer wind speed is greater than 10 m/s there will be fewer haze occurred especially during the period(October to next April) when haze is usually prone to occur;and during the season when haze is not inclined to happen,i.e.,from May to September,in addition to mid-layer wind-speed,the height of atmospheric boundary layer and the weather condition should be also considered.Furthermore,in the case of frequent rainfall and rather high atmospheric boundary layer haze would not likely occur although the mid-layer wind speed is low.
