Heavy Metals in Sediments of Taizi River in Liaoning:Pollution Situation and Potential Ecological Risk

SHAO Jian,ZHAO Xiao-juan(North China Institute of Water Conservancy and Electric Power,Zhengzhou 450011,China)  
Samples were taken from the top-layer of sediment of Taizi River in Liaoning Province in order to measure and evaluate the pollution of heavy metals such as Cu,Pb,Cd and Zn in the river sediment.The geo-accumulation and potential ecological risk indices were employed in the evaluations relating to pollution levels and eco-risk.Results indicated that pollution level in so far as the above-mentioned four metals in descending order was CdZn≥CuPb;and potential eco-risk intensity in descending order was CdCu≈ZnPb.Consequently,cadmium was the primary among the heavy metals polluting Taizi River.
