Effects of Inorganic Carbon Sources on Growth of Chlorella sp. TCCC45058

An experiment was conducted on how microalgae growth would be affected by inorganic carbon including CO2,HCO3-and CO32-,the three major forms of carbon source in nature,while Chlorella sp.TCCC45058 as a typical strain of microalgae was studied.The result showed that the study algae,i.e.Chlorella sp.TCCC45058 was able to utilize CO2,HCO3-but CO32-;on the other hand,excessive CO32-concentration would hinder the algal photosynthetic rate which however would be promoted by properly higher concentration of HCO3-.When CO32-was used as a sole carbon source,content of cell Chlorophyll a was very low(9 mg/g),but the carbon source composed of both CO2 and HCO3-would not interference with cell Chlorophyll a content that was as high as the values(14~17 mg/g)and would maintain rather stable in spite of the change of CO2 and HCO3-concentrations.
