Simulation Experiment on the Effect of Water Disturbance on Growth of Microcystis aeruginosa

The study focused on Microcystis aeruginosa and conducted two experiments in order to analyze the effect of water disturbance on the growth of the algae and its influencing mechanism.Both experiments were performed in culture conditions,one with constant water temperature(27 ℃) and constant light intensity(3 000 lx) and the other condition simulating natural water temperature and light variations in Taihu Basin.The results indicated that there showed different effects of different water disturbance intensities on the growth of Microcystis aeruginosa.Slight disturbance(100 and 200 r/min) were conducive to the growth of Microcystis and prolonged the time of exponential growth,the mechanism of which might be that slight disturbance accelerated the flowing of ions towards the surface of algae cells,hence the stimulation of nutrients absorbability of Microcystis.However,the growth of Microcystis was relatively inhibited under higher disturbance beakers(400 r/min),where big fluctuation may also affect the photosynthesis of Microcystis and inhibit the algae growth rate.The results indicate that the mechanism of the effect of water disturbance on Microcystis is mainly for the intervention of disturbance on nutrient and light utilization of Microcystis aeruginosa,which will enhance the understanding of affecting mechanism of hydrodymanic processes on algae growth.
