Triphenyltin Sorption on Soils Influenced by the Environmental pH and the Soil Characteristics

The sorption of triphenyltin(TPT),a typical toxic organometallic compounds,on the black soil from Inner Mongolia(NM),the calcareous soil from Hangzhou,Zhejiang(ZJ),the lateritic red soil from Yunnan(YN),the brown soil from Xinjiang(XJ) and the red soil from Jiangxi(JX) were estimated using the batch equilibration method at different pH conditions.The results showed that each TPT sorption isotherm fit well with linear equation in the five soil samples,and the regression coefficients were between 0.88 and 0.99.At the same pH conditions,the sorption capacity of the soil samples followed the order of: NM(1 708.6~4 194.7 L/kg)adsorption capacity of ZJ(276.2~574.5 L/kg)YN(217.1~497.5 L/kg)XJ(88.3~ 155.7 L/kg)JX(27.4~75.4 L/kg).TPT sorption increased with the increase of the organic carbon(OC) content and the CEC content of soils,and the OC plays a dominant role.TPT species changed with the solution pH change,resulting in the TPT sorption in soils increased firstly and then decreased with the increase of pH,and the maximum sorption of TPT occurred at pH 5.27(the pKa values).Therefore,the sorption of TPT on soils was probably a combined effect of the hydrophobic partition,the cation exchange interaction and physical adsorption.
