Characterization of Organic Acids with Different Atmospheric Particle Sizes

Atmospheric particulate samples in Beijing Haidian district were collected by high volume cascade impactor from January to July in 2012.21 fatty acids and 7 dicarboxylic acids had been measured by GC-MS after the filters were extracted by reagent and derivated.The results showed average concentrations of fatty acids were 721.83 ng/m3,487.51 ng/m3,349.28 ng/m3 and dicarboxylic acids were 215.31 ng/m3,157.09 ng/m3,112.39 ng/m3 in PM10,PM2.5,PM1,respectively.Fatty acids and dicarboxylic acids concentrated mainly in the fifth grade particles.C11-C24 of fatty acids exhibited a significant even number predominances,but dicarboxylic acids presented no parity preponderance.In the fatty acids,the concentration of hexadecanoic acid was the highest with that of octadecanoic acid followed;Nonandioic acid was the highest in dicarboxylic acids.The results of source apportionments indicate that the fatty acids were mainly related with human activities.Coal burning for heating was the most important source in January and February,but its contribution decreased sharply in other months for fatty acids;The main source of dicarboxylic acids was photochemical reactions.
