Degradation of The Dissolved Organic Matter in Secondary Effluent By GAC/H_2O_2/UV

The granular activated carbon(GAC) is used not only as adsorbent,but also as catalyst.The study aims to research the treatment of secondary effluent by GAC,hydrogen peroxide(H2O2) and ultraviolet(UV).The degradation of the dissolved organic matter in secondary effluent by GAC,UV,H2O2,GAC/UV,GAC/H2O2,UV/H2O2 or GAC/H2O2/UV is contrasted.The contribution in GAC/H2O2/UV system between the catalysis of H2O2 by GAC and the decomposition of H2O2 by UV is focused to discuss.The results show that the degradation efficiency by GAC/H2O2/UV is significantly higher than that by others.Degradation rate increases with the retention time.Though GAC can catalyze H2O2,the decomposing of H2O2 by UV to produce.OH plays the most important role.The residual hydrogen peroxide in effluent is decreased after degradation by GAC/H2O2/UV.
