Study of Component Characterization and Treatment Result of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons in Waste Water From a Coking Plant

Contents and compositions of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs) listed for prior control by US EPA in a coking plant's coking wastewater in Shanxi province were detected with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC/MS).The results showed that the removal efficiency of PAHs in coking wastewater by biochemical treatment was 78.87%,even better for 3 rings and 4 rings PAHs.The concentration of BaP exceeded the national sewage effluent discharge standards(GB8978-1996).The ring characteristic of PAHs in coking wastewater was similar with atmospheric pollutants during coking.The ratios of different PAHs compounds were different from previous studies,which could be consulted for PAHs source analysis in water.Potential risk evaluation model was BEQ(BaP equivalent concentration),and the results showed that the healthy risks of coking wastewater after treatment were declined,but still couldn't be ignored.
