Laccase-catalyzed Oxidation of 17α-ethinylestradiol in Wastewater

Laccase-catalyzed oxidation was used in the treatment of 17α-ethinylestradiol(EE2) in waste water.The effects of temperature,pH,initial concentration of substrate and laccase,and mediator on the removal effiency of EE2 were inverstigated.EE2 can be effectively oxidized by oxygen catalyzed by laccase in wastewater.The optimal conditions for the removal of EE2 were 35 t,pH 5.38 and the initial ratio of[laccase]to[EE2]0.178 U/μmol.The removal efficiency of EE2 was more than 92%after 180 min reaction under the optimal conditions.The EE2 removal efficiency decreased with its concentration increasing from 0.017 1 mmol/L to 0.051 3 mmol/L,while the quantity of EE2 removed increased.Both EE2 removal efficiency and its removed quantity decreased with its concentration increasing from 0.051 3 mmol/L to 0.137 6mmol/L.Both stirring reaction mixture and ABTS added to reaction mixture can accelerate the reaction rate and enhance EE2 removal efficiency.
