Influence of 1,2,4-TCB(trichlorobenzene) on the Oxidative Stress and Physiological Characteristics of Ceratophyllum demersum

Effects of different concentrations of 1,2,4-TCB(1,2,4-trichlorobenzene) on the contents of chlorophyll,soluble protein,glutathione(GSH),malondialdehyde(MDA),the superoxide dismutase(SOD) and peroxidase(POD) activities in Ceratophyllum demersum were investigated in this study by the method of usage of 1/10 Hoagland nutrient solution hydroponics.The results showed that significantly higher MDA contents in C.demersum were observed in the different concentrations of 1,2,4-TCB(p0.05).MDA content increased significantly along with the time extension(p 0.05).GSH content was increased significantly at the concentrations of 2.5 mg/L and 5 mg/L of 1,2,4-TCB compared to control treatment.SOD activity was significantly increased at 1.25 mg/L and 2.5 mg/L relative to control treatment.However,SOD activity was significantly decreased at the concentration of 5 mg/L compared with the control treatment.The Chlorophyll content significantly decreased at 20 mg/L and 40 mg/L,and physiological function for leaf was damaged.Under the treatment with 1,2,4-TCB,C.demersum physiological function was inhibited and chlorophyll content decreased,which indicated that the higher concentration of 1,2,4-TCB,the higher phytotoxicity of 1,2,4-TCB to the C.demersum.
