Influence Factor of O-toluidine Wastewater Treatment Efficiency by Electrochemical Technology

In this paper,graphite sheets were used as electrode to build a simple electrochemical wastewater treatment device to treatment o-toluidine wastewater.Na_2SO_4 and NaCl were chosen as electrolytes to investigate their influence on o-toluidine and COD removal under different conditions of electrolyte concentrations and current density.Differences of COD removal and energy consumption were compared in the two electrolytes and the mechanism of o-toluidine removal was primarily explored.The results showed that treatment effect in NaCl electrolyte was much better than in Na_2SO_4 electrolyte.O-toluidine and COD removals of NaCl electrolyte were 41.2%and 37.2%higher than in Na_2SO_4 electrolyte under the same conditions respectively.Under the optimum conditions power consumption in NaCl electrolyte was reduced by 80.5%than in Na_2SO_4electrolyte.This is mainly due to that using NaCl as electrolyte not only can direct oxidize and degrade o-toluidine by anode but also generate strong oxidizing chlorine and hypochloric acid to decompose o-toluidine indirectly.
