Analysis on Characteristics of a Regional Air Pollution Incident in Pearl River Delta

A regional air pollution incident in the Pearl River Delta(PRD) from 7th to 16 th September,2015 was studied based on air quality monitoring data together with the surface meteorological observations and the backward trajectories model,with the focus on its characteristics and mechanisms.The results suggested that the incident was caused by the increase of O_3 concentration and the heavily polluted area tended to move from the Guangzhou-Foshan-Zhaoqing city cluster in the northern and central region of PRD towards the southern coastal area;the air pollution that continued long was intensified by the meteorological factors,i.e.the steady uniform-pressure field,large-scale downdraft,and low ground wind speed;and the remote transport of air pollutants had a significant impact on ambient air quality of this region.
